The Azores
Corvo is the smallest island of the Azores with a surface of 17.45 square kilometers. The only settlement is the Vila Nova do Corvo with 425 inhabitants. Corvo consists of an extinct volcano, called Monte dos Homens (718 meters).
Flores is at 143,1 km ² the fourth-smallest island of the Portuguese Azores. The capital is Santa Cruz with approx. 1600 inhabitants. On the island are living about 4400 humans. The official language is Portuguese, many inhabitants are speaking French.
Ilha do Faial is the fifth-largest island of the Azores, belonging to Portugal. It is called also Ilha Azul (the blue island), because of the many blue hydrangea hedges. Faial played always a special role, whether as stopover of the early transatlantic flights, whether as center for telecommunications between Europe and America or as important yachting port.
Pico is an island of the Azores. It was named after the 2351m high volcano. Pico is 42 km long and 15 km wide, the surface amounts to 442 sq.km. Behind the rock a high plateau with smaller volcanic cones extends, on which larger cattle herds are held. On pico are living 15,500 humans.
São Jorge belongs to the central group of the Azores, it is 245.6 square kilometers large and has the form of a pin. The capital is Velas with approximately 1.900 inhabitants. On São Jorge are living approximately 4.000 humans. São Jorge is ideal for a hiking vacation on the Azores.
Graciosa, also called white island , is nearly the smallest island of the Azores. The island covers a surface of 60,84sq.km and has an oval form. Principal place and the only municipality on the island is Santa Cruz da Graciosa with approximately 4,780 inhabitants.
Terceira belongs to the Azores. The island possesses a surface of 399,8 square kilometers, is 29 km long and 17.5 km wide. Approximately 56,000 inhabitants are living on Terceira. Capital of the island is Angra do Heroísmo with approximately 12,000 inhabitants. Terceira is settled only at the coast.
Santa Maria is an island of the Azores, which belongs to Portugal. Approximately 6,000 inhabitants are living on 97 sq.km. Santa Maria is well known for the production of arts and crafts, potteries and fish processing.
São Miguel is the largest island of the Azores. The island is 63.7 km long and 16.1 km wide. 131.000 humans are living on São Miguel . Approximately 20,000 of them in the capital Ponta Delgada. At the island are the only tea plantations within the European union situated .

Auf der Rugard-Bühne in Rügens Inselhauptstadt Bergen, übrigens eine ehemalige Slawenburg, steht im Monat August der erste Rügener Musical Sommer und ein Live-Konzert mit dem Superstar der deutschen Schlagerbranche – Matthias Reim – auf dem Programm. Zwischen Sommer, Sonne und Ostseestrand ist vom 1. bis 12. August erstmalig ein „Best of“ unter dem Titel Rügener Musical Sommer in der einmaligen Atmosphäre der Rugard-Bühne in Bergen erleben. An zehn Abenden, jeweils um 20 Uhr, verwandelt sich die Freilichtbühne in eine wunderbare Welt aus Show, Tanz und Musik. Ein traumhafter Abend mit eindrucksvollen und natürlich live gesungenen Songs aus den bekanntesten und beliebtesten Musicals, wie König der Löwen, Dirty Dancing, ABBA, Cats, Queen und vielen anderen, erwartet das Publikum. Somit kann man sich auf bekannte Melodien wie „Can you feel the love tonight“ und „Hakuna Matata“, „Time of my life“, „Dancing Queen“ und „Super Trouper“ freuen. Gesungen werden alle Stücke von professionellen Darstellern aus großen Musical-Produktionen, die sich durch grandiose Stimmen und hervorragendes schauspielerisches sowie tänzerisches Können auszeichnen. Am 11. August um 20 Uhr gibt es als Zwischendurch-Highlight das grandiose Live-Konzert mit Matthias Reim, einem der beliebtesten deutschen Schlagersänger.
